Mattias Pettersson

Former student at the Masters programme in Strategic Communication

Graduated year:

2017

Position/Organization:

Copywriter at Happy Green

Why did you choose to study the Master’s programme in Strategic Communication at Lund University?

I did choose to study the programme because I thought it would mix perfectly with my bachelor in Culture Studies. To add an edge to my profile and give me new perspectives. I think it is a perfect mix, the perspective from culture studies and the strategic perspectives from strategic communications.

If you get the chance, take a course in sociology or any related subject. It will help you become a better communicator.

What is the best part of this programme and why?

The best part of the programme is the courses where you do cases, for example I did enjoy the course in crisis communication a lot. And of course, the teachers with their knowledge and experience.

In what way have your studies changed on how you look upon Strategic Communication practice?

It has changed my view on the relationship between being proactive or reactive in your communication. It is not possible to foresee everything that can happen but a lot of things you can foresee. And if you always bare the receiver perspective in my mind you will have a fair chance to prevent bad experiences regarding your communication.

I have also learn to live by the motto: the best communication is what you do, not what you say you do.

How has the program helped you to pursue a career in the communication industry?

The programme has opened the doors to the communication industry.

What are your future career dreams?

In the future I hope to work at a communication agency in Malmö
