Christoph Wegener

Why did you choose this programme?

– The content of the programme appeared as a perfect preparation for a career in strategic communications and a challenging way of engaging with PR in the academic field. Also the structure of the programme with spending one semester at the University of Stirling, a semester in Lund, an internship and the master thesis provides you with the possibility to gain theoretical understanding as well as practical expertise.

What do you think of the programme and Lund University?

– The best thing is that it is so international. We have ten different nationalities in our class right now. During the first semester at University of Stirling we were 15 different nationalities.

The experience of different cultures is very important. It is also useful to experience a new learning environment. We have a lot of interaction with other students, and develop strategies together in groups, for example. I have the same experience as many international students: Swedish students discuss a lot and try to build consensus.

– It is comfortable with a small department. A good aspect is that they are very flexible. They always try to solve problems that arise for international students.

How do you find the social life here?

– It is my first time in Scandinavia, and to be honest I expected people to be cold and introverted and not very friendly. But I found it completely different to my surprise: People here in Sweden are warm and friendly.

Do you have advice to other international students coming to Sweden?

– The Swedish student exchange agency EF says “It's not right. It's not wrong. It's just different.” I think that’s an absolutely fitting advice if you study abroad. You have to be open and do the best of the new environment.
