Assistant professor Hui Zhao Receives JPRR Karen M. Russell Award

Hui Zhao, lecturer at the Department of Strategic Communication, is the recipient of the 2021 Journal of Public Relations Research (JPRR) Karen M. Russell Award for “Explicating the social constructionist perspective on crisis communication and crisis management research: a review of communication and business journals,” the most-downloaded JPRR article during 2020.

Hui Zhao received the award on July 27th from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) the 104th Annual Conference. The awarded paper is a theoretical study that explicates the social constructionist perspectives on crisis communication.

Hui Zhao interests in researching organizational communication in a rapidly evolving media landscape and amidst complex social situations like crises. Key research areas include organizational communication with external stakeholders and cultural and political aspects of digital media. Hui Zhao teaches organization-related communication topics, including strategic communication, public relations, crisis communication, and media studies in the contexts of market, culture, and society.
