Apollonia San Contreras
Influencer Marketing Manager at Kronaby.
Why did you choose to study the Master’s programme in Strategic Communication at Lund University?
After having studied to economist I realised I was more of a people-person and not very skilled at working with numbers. I also didn't find myself ready for the working life and felt I wanted to achieve a Master. I googled "communication + master" and got extremely happy when I found ISK.
What is the best part of this programme and why?
I appreciated the flexibility of the Programme and the teachers commitment. One example is that the teachers knew the names of the students - I wasn't familiar with that from the Bachelor. Every course contained some form of case that made it easy to combine studies with work. As a student I also got the possibility to combine theory with the practical, which has helped me a lot since I started to work. Another thing I appreciated was the possibility to study abroad. I studied at Polytechnic University in Hong Kong, which added that little extra to my exam when it was time to apply for jobs.
In what way have your studies changed on how you look upon Strategic Communication practice?
I always have the communication perspective with me in campaigns and co-operations. In my role as Influencer Marketing Manager it is not only to make sure the influencer get the product but also get the influencer accept our "overall vision" and there the communication perspective is very important.
What are your future career dreams?
My future career dream is to contribute to the female empowerment culture and inspire young women to not be afraid of asking for what they want. It's easy to allow insecurities about gender, age or experience level to prevent you from making a big demand. Lots of women are hesitant to talk about their achievements and worry that it's baggy, my dream is to change that. To sum up, my future career dream is to become the millennial version of Sheryl Sandberg.
