Media Research Øresund

Twelve years have passed since the Öresund bridge was inaugurated and commuting between Sweden and Denmark really took off.

Although volumes have been written about the bridge and the Öresund region, the media have usually maintained a national perspective. Mobility over the strait has increased every year. But the shared regional media presence which many expected when the bridge was put in place has not come to pass. We may be looking at a new phase in the development.

The Media Research Øresund project is a joint research project in which Lund University and Roskilde University in Denmark study the media’s reporting on the Öresund region. The project is led by media researchers Jesper Falkheimer, Professor of Strategic Communication at Lund University and Mark Ørsten, senior lecturer responsible for the journalism degree programme at Roskilde University.

The media studies are part of the project Øresund Media Platform. This project was ongoing between 2012 and 2014 with a total budget of close to EUR 1 million. It is run jointly by Øresundsinstituttet, Lund University and Roskilde University, with funding from the EU Regional Development fund Interreg IV A and from a series of agents in the Öresund region.
