The digital city and the sharing economy: potentials and problems

The sharing Economy
The research aim in this project is to investigate how digital platforms on which goods and services are shared can create value for the city and its residents.
The objective is to increase the knowledge about how sharing platforms can alleviate the challenges faced by many cities related to pollution, reinvention of city centers, housing, infrastructure, lack of residents’ engagement in local decision-making, fostering greater diversity and inclusiveness, public safety, and so on.  democratic processes, local communities, and contribute to a sustainable city.  In the project we follow efforts to implement and integrate sharing platforms in the city of Helsingborg. The platforms enable residents to share material resources and services, as well as participating in local decision-making and idea generation. Digital platforms designed for community sharing form the foundation of what is sometimes referred to as the sharing economy. In the project, we approach sharing as not just a business model, but a principle central to digitalization that can be used to create different types of value for the municipality.

The project runs for one year and is funded by Plattformen, Helsingborg stad.
