Why did you choose Lund University and the Master's Programme in Strategic Communication?

Lund University is a well-known university being among the 100 best universities in the world. Thus, studying at Lund University is a privilege and a prestigious achievement to add to one’s CV. Besides that, being a student at Lund University gives me the chance to experience the student environment, giving me opportunities to meet new people and get exposed to diverse cultures.

I chose to do the Master’s Programme in Strategic Communication because it would be the perfect complement to my academic background. The program is both theoretical and practical and gives the chance to put into practice all the theories that are taught during the lectures.

What is the best thing about your programme?

The best thing about the programme is that it combines both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. By combining both I feel like I am updating the knowledge I acquired so many years ago during my bachelor’s studies and also that I am learning new things that didn't even exist decades ago. The courses expanded my knowledge of the communication processes that exist nowadays and updated and expanded my skills, better preparing myself to be a communication professional that is fit for the current job market.

What is it like to live and study in Sweden?

Coming from Brazil, there are a lot of differences when living and studying in Sweden. Even though I like the cold weather, the winter darkness is real and hard to handle. The season blue is real and so it is necessary to find tools to deal with it. During the summer, the sun is out the whole day, which can also be tricky and demands some adjustments since these changes can affect our sleeping patterns. So you have to know that living in Sweden will demand a lot in terms of adjustments. However, I like living here because I feel safe and I have the freedom to do whatever I want whenever I want. Studying in Sweden is different from Brazil, in many ways. In Sweden, there is a big emphasis on group work, which can be quite challenging for some students. The quality of the teaching is excellent. Once again we need to be able to adapt to the Swedish system and I feel that Lund University offers a lot of tools to help students with that.

Do you have any advice for students considering studying at Lund University and Campus Helsingborg?

Buy your winter clothes in Sweden, invest in good waterproof shoes, and a good raincoat is a must. Also, get your MECENAT card as soon as possible since it is necessary to pay the student prices on public transport. Believe me, at the beginning of the semester, they will check and if you don’t have the card and bought a student ticket, they will fine you (a LOT of money) or kick you off the train.

Do you have any favourite places in Helsingborg?

The beach and Sofiero Castle,

What are your plans for the future?

I want to combine my Master’s in Strategic Communication with my Master’s in Human Rights and Multiculturalism so I can use communication to help promote human rights around the world.
