Who is Maria?

Maria Månsson

Maria Månsson

What is your academic background and what did you do before you started teaching at Lund University?

I have a PhD in service studies and before that; I studied at the Master’s programme in Service management focusing on tourism at Lund University, Campus Helsingborg. I belonged to the first group of students who started at Campus when it opened in the year 2000. Before coming back to Lund University and joined the department of strategic communication I worked as a lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, UK.

What trends do you see in strategic communication?

I see a growing need for strategic communication that address current issues in our society. In my own research, I currently work with issues related to resilience, social sustainability, mediatization and urban tourism from a strategic communication perspective.

What would the students be surprised to find out about you?

I have participated in a quiz show on Swedish television, Vem vet mest, and I won my night.

What is one of your hidden talents?

One of my hidden talents is that I am good at making jams and other preserves from the produce in my allotment.

If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching/researching, what would you do instead?

I love teaching and doing research so it is a tricky question. I guess I would spend more time in my allotment growing flowers and vegetables when I’m not slowly travelling around the world in a sustainable way.
