About the speaker: Mr. Matthew Armstrong is an author and advisor on structural and operational issues related to public diplomacy and strategic communication. From 2013 to 2016, he was nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as a Governor on the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, and the other U.S. Government international media operations. He has long been engaged with the U.S. Defense Department, State Department, and the Congress on matters related to international information flows, including twice testifying before Congress on information operations against the United States. He is a frequent speaker at NATO conferences, was made an honorary member of the U.S. Psychological Operations Regiment at the U.S. John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School and Center, and is a member of the National Press Club (U.S.). He is an Associate Fellow at King’s Centre for Strategic Communication at King’s College London. He is completing his book on how in 1917-1948 the U.S. government and U.S. media sought to make international information flows and public engagement integral to U.S. foreign policy.
