The RESIST Disinformation Toolkit provides a step-by-step approach to countering disinformation that helps communicators deal with the challenge in a systematic and efficient way, while ensuring that core democratic principles such as freedom of speech are protected. Its objective is to assist communicators in giving the public confidence in information, so they are equipped to make their own decisions.

 “We are delighted that the toolkit is released publicly” said Dr. James Pamment who is leading the project. “This is the first time this type of systematic approach to countering disinformation has been implemented across all of government”.

The research team at ISK has previously worked with the Hybrid CoE and Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) among others on developing methods for countering disinformation. The RESIST Disinformation Toolkit provides a comprehensive approach for how to deal with disinformation from a communication perspective.

 “The toolkit is a unique product” James continued. “If you do not have any capacity to deal with disinformation you can use the toolkit to set up a complete working structure, and if you already have some processes that work you can pick and choose the tools that will help you improve. It is a flexible model that can be tailored to the user’s needs”.

During the coming months the team at ISK will lead a series of training sessions to implement the toolkit with key stakeholders across UK government departments and other parts of the public sector.  ISK is also assisting in the implementation of RESIST in UK partner countries, with particular focus on countries facing national elections in 2019.
